Our Business
The best rubies in the world have always come
from Burma, or Myanmar as it is now called. Within this beautiful
and serene south-eastern Asian country the
premium gemstones come from Mogok, a reclusive mining town north
of Mandalay. Few foreigners have been there. Today access is
indeed denied to non Burmese.
Mogok rubies are not only precious, but also exceptionally
rare. You may have a mine for years on end without ever finding commercial rubies. Lucky miners who do, may only be able to excavate small quanties. And of those only a fraction are valuable.
With the scarcity of Mogok rubies it lends itself that these
gems are costly. The very best rubies may indeed be more
expensive than comparable sized diamonds.
Mogok Rubies and Sapphires Ltd is a small specialized company owned by a small group of people from Europe and Asia with
deep roots in the jewelry business. We only sell rubies, as nature made them over millions of years. None
are exposed to heat treatment or enhanced by radiation or chemical methods. In addition all our
rubies are from Mogok only.
All our gemstones are hand cut by experienced Burmese gem cutters having developed their skills over decades, often a skill inherited from father to son.
After cutting, the gemstones are carefully inspected by our jewelers. As a further precaution the rubies are also analyzed
by leading independent gemologist laboratories. All stone shipments contain two
gemstone certificates, one from a Myanmar gemologist and one from a major international gem laboratory.
Each of the rubies in our pricing section are
shown with 3 photographs, one of the crown, one of the profile and one of the
pavilion. In addition our European
Representative, Jan Moller has made a short description of the
stones as he viewed them. Jan has lifelong
experience at Georg Jensen, the world famous Danish jeweler and silversmith.
His grandfather was one of the founders of the company, at the beginning of the
20th Century, which today is a leading
international luxury brand within jewellery, silverware and exclusive
watches. Over the years Jan has held many senior positions in the company.
The ruby prices are offered in Euro and include shipping by an international courier carrier.
Our return policy allows you to return the gemstones for any reason for a full refund within 14 days of your receipt of the shipment.
